We had a peaceful, enjoyable experience at the hospital as Anna gave birth to our new son early this "labor day" weekend. (Notice the little one yawning.)

At first I hesitated to back out of an overnight Scout backpacking trip I planned to take place two weeks before my wife's due date (she's never delivered early with our four previous pregnancies). That morning it was difficult to tell whether the labor Anna was experiencing was "it." When I finally talked to another Scout leader about coming to pick up the group's food I had assembled, as I would not be going, I felt peaceful about the situation.

Generous friends watched our children while Anna and I went to the hospital, and, in less than five hours, Anna gave birth to our new, healthy son. They are now both at home and bringing increased joy to our family.

I am amazed at our blessings when I consider the smoothness of Anna's labor, the perfectly formed body of our new child and the overall health and comfortable circumstances of my family. This experience has been a powerful reminder to me of how happiness comes from putting my family first.

Congrats on the new baby. It is nice to see someone else on #5. Having a new baby in the family is such a special thing. I bet the older children just love their new brother.
