The weather this weekend is wet and stormy. I was browsing through some photos and saw that I hadn't posted anything from a family outing of last month. Here is a belated account from our Veterans Day birding trip when the weather was spectacular.

The photo above is toward the end of our hike and just after L slipped off the boardwalk and into the slough. She was cheerful about it at least. I was glad we were favored with blue skies and warm temperatures.

With the kids, we took the boardwalk trail. This is about the spot where we saw the sandhill cranes flying just over our heads. The book H is holding was only slightly useful as we are not in Idaho.

Here are the kids glassin' the slough. It was a bit of a noisy place with thousands of waterfowl and other birds (they out-did us). I'd like to go back to this unique spot to do some paddling on the river portions some day.

That looks so fun! I've never been bird watching and wouldn't even know what I'm looking at, but I love that you take your kids out on fun and educational outings :)
